The best Meta Search Engines
Meta search engines take your search terms and search several search engines simultaneously. It's a good use of information technology. Sometimes they produce excellent results. They can reduce the number of pages presented and save you time in finding information on the Web.

Profusion
Powered by Intelliseek, it gives you a relevance score, and the
search engines in which it found the results. You can also sign
up to be alerted when a page changes. Neat! You can also access
content in "Invisible Web Sites" (e.g. encyclopaedias,
specialised web directories etc.)

Ask
(aka Ask Jeeves)
Allows you to search using "proper English" (e.g. "How
do I make electronic books?". Present the information both in
conventional search engine format, and also suggests answers to variations
of your question.

Metacrawler
Multiple searches of Altavista, Excite, Infoseek, Lycos, Webcrawler
and Yahoo. Good, and fast. One of the first Meta Search Engines

Dogpile
Part of the Infospace network, I think. Results come from a good cross-section
of search engines, and seems to be fairly accurate and quick.

Searches engines such as Hotbot, Teoma, Open Directory, as well as
search sponsors such as LookSmart and Sprinks. With "advanced"
mode, you can choose which to search.

Ferret - FREE software here!
Not a search engine as such, but a super little FREE program that
sits on your desk top and zooms off to search the main search engines
for you. It's a smallish download (less than 600Kb) and it's neat
and furry!
